National agreement with VAAS Industries
(January 2002)

Ram Universal were approached by Vaas Industries to represent its range of products in the UK and Ireland.

At that stage the Vaas name was largely unknown within the UK market and after a slow start, interest in the product began to pick up to the point where Managing Director Robert James decided the only way the market was going to be attacked properly was with stocks held at its Leicester warehouse.

The first stock order arrived late in the summer of 2003, with sizes ranging from 2 to 20in in both cast iron and stainless steel, both handwheel and pneumaticaly operated.

To date Ram has received two further stock orders and has extended its range to include the 700 Series, which is a bi-directional valve used mainly on heavy slurries and pneumatic conveying lines. With Ram's experience gathered over the past 25 years within the process valve market, the addition of solenoid valves, switches or positioners to the Vaas linear actuators presented no problem.

With companies such as Aggregate Industries, Powergen, TXU Power, Rugby Cement and Castle Cement to name a few already active, Ram are hoping things can carry on going from strength to strength.

Ball Valve Contract with M.O.D.
(October 2003)

Ram Universal Ltd has recently been awarded a £325K order for the supply of Habonim ball valves and actuators fitted with position monitors. The contract supplied to a Ministry of Defence facility presented a number of challenges over and above the usual ones of ensuring delivery promises were maintained.

Some of the more onerous requirements were:-

♦ All wetted services required a 3.2 Ra internal finish or better.
♦ All pressure retaining components required full material certification including ball, stem and bolts.
♦ All non-metallic components required a certificate of conformity proving the materials traceability.
♦ All cast valves required 100% dye penetrant testing.
♦ All valves were degreased and double bagged.
♦ All valves were hydro-tested utilising de-ionised water with maximum chlorine content of 30ppm.

Many of the valves supplied were manufactured from Inconel X750 with the balance being 316L Stainless steel.

All the actuated valves were fitted with Westlock Position Monitors containing Foundation Fieldbus compatible hardware, which included a solenoid valve with visual position beacon.

The valves were delivered on time with a documentation package, which required fifty ring binders to house the drawings, certification, test results, quality and production manuals.
